Power Stroke is Ford’s diesel line for the Super Duty trucks. The current 6.7L “Scorpion” V8 followed the 6.0L and 6.4L; the original 7.3L Power Stroke (1994–2003) is the legendary one enthusiasts hunt for; and a 3.0L V6 Power Stroke was offered briefly in the F-150.
Note one common mix-up: the newer 7.3L “Godzilla” is a gas V8, not a Power Stroke diesel — only the 1994–2003 7.3L is a Power Stroke. Decode your VIN above and read the fuel-type and engine fields to confirm exactly what you have.

How your VIN shows the Power Stroke
On most vehicles the 8th character of the VIN encodes the engine — but the specific letter or number that means a given engine is make-, model- and year-specific, so there is no universal code to look up. Is the 7.3 in my truck a Power Stroke or the gas Godzilla?
Decode the VIN and read the fuel type. A 1994–2003 7.3L on a Super Duty is the Power Stroke diesel; the 2020+ 7.3L “Godzilla” is a gasoline V8. The fuel field settles it immediately.
Which Power Stroke generation do I have?
