Choose the right identification route
Tractors
Record the full model and PIN from the machine plate. A tractor serial, engine serial and attachment serial are different records. For the 1023E / 1025R examples in Deere’s official recall document, the plate is on the right frame near the front right tire. Other tractor models vary; use their specific manual.
Gator utility vehicles
Deere’s guide shows Gator plates above the rear hitch or on the right side between the rear tire and cargo box. Confirm the position for your exact model. A road-VIN lookup is not a substitute for Deere’s equipment record or its parts catalog.
Lawn and garden mowers
For 100 Series mowers, Deere’s support FAQ places the serial near the left side of the seat; zero-turn positions vary by model. Deere’s illustrated guide also covers riding, ZTrak and push mowers. Capture the machine model and serial; the engine label alone may not identify the mower.

How can I find the manufacture year of an older Deere 300?
Record the machine model and complete serial number, then use its specific manual and dealer records. A short industrial-tractor serial cannot be interpreted with a modern car VIN year chart. We do not assign a year from an unverified serial range.
How can I identify the model and year of a used Deere loader?
Check the machine identification plate and distinguish its model from attachment or engine numbers. Our construction-format check covers only the documented 331G / 333G family. Other loader families need their own manual and Deere record.
Is a John Deere PIN the same as a road VIN?
No. The machine Product Identification Number or serial number is equipment-specific. Having 17 characters does not make a PIN a road-vehicle VIN supported by NHTSA.
Can I find the year of every John Deere from its serial number?
There is no universal year formula across all Deere machines. Use the model-specific operator manual, identification plate and Deere dealer records. Do not apply a car VIN year chart to every tractor or mower.
Where should I find a mower identification number?
