EcoBoost is Ford’s family of turbocharged, direct-injection gas engines, spread across nearly the whole lineup — from the 1.0L three-cylinder up to the 3.5L V6 in the F-150 and the twin-turbo 3.5 in the Raptor and GT. The 2.7L V6 and 2.3L four are the other common ones.

Does my F-150 have the 2.7 or 3.5 EcoBoost?

Decode the VIN and read the engine field — it returns the displacement (2.7L or 3.5L V6). The horsepower field can help distinguish a standard 3.5 from the high-output Raptor tune.

Is EcoBoost a diesel?

No. EcoBoost is turbocharged gasoline with direct injection. If your VIN decodes to a diesel, it’s a Power Stroke, not an EcoBoost.
