Vortec is GM’s marketing name for its truck and van gas engines, spanning the 4.3L V6 and the 4.8/5.3/6.0L V8s. On the V8s the Vortec branding overlaps the LS architecture, so a “5.3 Vortec” and a “5.3 LS” can be the same physical engine described two different ways.

Usually yes — “Vortec” is GM’s truck-engine branding and the 4.8/5.3/6.0 V8s share the LS architecture. The VIN decode returns the displacement; whether you call it Vortec or LS is naming, not a different engine.
